This is a senior site-based logistics leadership role requiring an outstanding construction logistics professional with the experience, presence and capability to manage complex site logistics across a demanding, high-profile project environment.
The successful candidate must be highly organised, commercially aware, operationally disciplined and capable of leading logistics strategy, planning and execution at scale.
Package
* Salary: £120,000 per annum
* Discretionary bonus: 10–12% of annual salary
* Additional package: Very strong wider benefits package
* Working pattern: Site-based, Monday to Friday
* Hours: 7:00am – 7:00pm
* Hybrid working: Not available
* Start: Urgent requirement
The Role
The Senior Logistics Manager will take responsibility for the planning, management and control of site logistics across a major construction environment.
You will oversee all logistics strategy, site access, movement of materials, laydown areas, traffic management, plant coordination, delivery scheduling, welfare logistics, security interfaces and general site movement planning.
This is a hands-on senior leadership position for someone who can operate at both strategic and operational level. You will be expected to lead from the front, maintain full control of site logistics and ensure that construction teams, subcontractors, suppliers and delivery partners are properly coordinated.
The role will include direct management of two Logistics Managers, ensuring they are effectively supported, directed and held accountable for performance across their respective areas.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the overall logistics strategy for a major construction project.
* Manage all day-to-day site logistics operations.
* Oversee two Logistics Managers and ensure strong performance across the wider logistics function.
* Develop and maintain site logistics plans, phasing strategies and movement plans.
* Manage site access, delivery routes, traffic flows, laydown areas and material movement.
* Coordinate logistics requirements with construction, project management, commercial, planning and HSE teams.
* Ensure delivery schedules are aligned with the construction programme.
* Manage supplier, subcontractor and haulier interfaces.
* Maintain control of material deliveries, storage, lifting coordination and distribution across site.
* Support craneage, plant movement, temporary works and high-risk logistics planning where required.
* Oversee site security, gate control, permits, vehicle booking systems and access management.
* Ensure logistics operations are delivered safely and in accordance with project HSE requirements.
* Identify risks, bottlenecks and constraints that could impact programme delivery.
* Produce logistics reports, dashboards and updates for senior project leadership.
* Drive continuous improvement across logistics performance, safety, cost and efficiency.
* Ensure site logistics supports productivity and does not become a blocker to delivery.
* Maintain excellent communication with senior stakeholders, subcontractors and site teams.
* Set clear standards for discipline, safety, organisation and professionalism across all logistics operations.
Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate must be an exceptional construction logistics professional with extensive experience in complex project environments.
Essential experience includes:
* Proven experience as a Senior Logistics Manager, Logistics Lead, Logistics Director, Construction Logistics Manager or similar.
* Strong background in major construction, infrastructure, industrial, logistics, data centre, energy, defence, advanced manufacturing or large-scale building projects.
* Experience managing site logistics on complex, fast-moving construction programmes.
* Previous responsibility for logistics strategy, site access, traffic management, delivery planning, material movement and laydown control.
* Strong leadership experience, including managing logistics teams and subcontractors.
* Ability to work effectively with Project Directors, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Planners, HSE teams and commercial teams.
* Excellent understanding of construction sequencing and how logistics affects programme delivery.
* Confident managing high volumes of deliveries, site movements, materials, plant and subcontractor interfaces.
* Strong HSE awareness and ability to maintain safe logistics operations in live construction environments.
* Excellent communication, reporting and stakeholder management skills.
* Highly organised, proactive and comfortable operating under pressure.
* Able to work fully site-based, 7:00am to 7:00pm, with no hybrid working requirement.
Essential Qualifications
* SMSTS or equivalent site safety qualification
* CSCS Card
* Full UK driving licence
* Strong working knowledge of construction logistics planning and site operations
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
* IOSH / NEBOSH or additional HSE training
* CPCS / lifting operations awareness
* Temporary Works awareness
* Traffic management experience
* Experience with delivery management systems or vehicle booking systems
* Experience on high-value, complex or nationally significant construction programmes
* Experience managing logistics teams across large live sites
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be one of the strongest people in their field.
They will have the credibility to take control of logistics on a major construction site, the discipline to keep operations moving safely and efficiently, and the leadership ability to manage logistics teams, subcontractors and demanding stakeholders.
This role is not suited to a junior logistics candidate, general site coordinator or someone whose experience is limited to small projects. The client requires a proven senior logistics leader who understands large-scale construction, can operate under pressure and can bring structure, control and momentum to a complex site environment.
The successful candidate will be visible on site, highly engaged with delivery teams and able to anticipate problems before they affect programme, safety or productivity.
