Job description
Site Manager
VETWORK is supporting a growing construction and project delivery business with the appointment of experienced Site Managers to support a strong pipeline of live and upcoming projects across the UK.
This role would suit a practical, delivery-focused Site Manager with experience managing construction sites, subcontractors, health and safety, programme delivery and day-to-day site operations within demanding project environments.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in civil engineering, construction, refurbishment, industrial, logistics, data centre, defence, energy, infrastructure or major building projects.
The Role
The Site Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day site activity, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standard.
You will act as the key site lead for allocated works, coordinating subcontractors, managing site teams, maintaining health and safety compliance, monitoring progress and ensuring clear communication between the project team, client representatives, suppliers and site operatives.
This is a hands-on delivery role suited to someone who is confident taking ownership of site activity and driving standards on live construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day site operations across assigned construction projects.
* Coordinate subcontractors, direct labour, suppliers and site logistics.
* Ensure works are delivered safely, on time, within scope and to the required quality standard.
* Maintain strong health, safety, environmental and quality standards on site.
* Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, briefings and regular site inspections.
* Review and implement RAMS, permits, site documentation and safe systems of work.
* Monitor progress against programme and report delays, risks or issues to the project team.
* Support short-term planning, lookahead schedules and coordination of upcoming works.
* Liaise with Project Managers, Construction Managers, clients, consultants and subcontractors.
* Ensure materials, plant and labour are planned effectively to support site progress.
* Maintain accurate site records, diaries, progress updates and photographic evidence.
* Identify and escalate commercial, programme, quality or safety risks.
* Support snagging, handover, close-out and completion activities.
* Promote a professional, disciplined and safety-first site culture.
Candidate Requirements
* Proven experience as a Site Manager, Construction Manager, Works Manager, General Foreman or similar site delivery role.
* Background in construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, industrial, logistics, data centres, defence, energy, refurbishment or major building projects.
* Strong understanding of live site operations, subcontractor coordination and construction sequencing.
* Confident managing health and safety on active construction sites.
* Ability to read drawings, understand technical information and coordinate works accordingly.
* Experience managing RAMS, permits, site inspections, toolbox talks and project documentation.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to manage site teams, subcontractors and stakeholders.
* Comfortable working in fast-paced, programme-driven project environments.
* Practical, organised and delivery-focused approach.
* Willingness to travel or work on project sites as required.
Essential Qualifications
* SMSTS
* CSCS Card
* First Aid at Work
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
* Temporary Works Supervisor or Temporary Works Coordinator
* SSSTS may be considered for developing candidates with strong site experience
* IOSH / NEBOSH or additional HSE training
* Experience working under main contractor or principal contractor environments
* Experience on NEC-led projects
* Experience in industrial, logistics, data centre, defence, energy or infrastructure schemes
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a confident, practical Site Manager who can take ownership of live site activity and maintain control of safety, quality, programme and subcontractor performance.
This role is best suited to someone who has genuinely managed construction works on site, rather than someone whose experience is purely facilities management, maintenance, compliance or office-based project coordination.
Candidates should be comfortable leading from the front, maintaining high site standards and working closely with project teams to ensure successful delivery.
